Home is Where the Heart is Quilt & Gift Shop, Inc. was established March 3, 2005. It is located in the charming country town of Choctaw Oklahoma. Marie Childress is the store Owner/President; she has spent many years dreaming of owning her own quilt shop. Her husband Kevin Childress dedicated 22 years of his life to the United States Navy. She is blessed with 3 children Zakari, Makenzi, Catalina Childress. After her husband's retirement from the Navy, her job re-located her to Oklahoma City. Where she now works for a medical device company, Inion,Inc. Marie has quilted for over 30 years, she and her mother Alice Garza and grandmother Stella Jimenez have shared a love for quilting for years. Even her daughter Catalina at the age of 8 years old is a quilter. Over four generations of quilting has been poured into the love of the art of quilting, and dreams to produce a store that makes you feel at home. This store gives you the warmth of a families love for traditions, something you can pass on to the next generation. Everyone is welcome to come in and stay for awhile and bring their machines and quilt. Marie got the courage to open her store after winning 3rd place in the Oklahoma State Fair for a quilting contest. She never thought she would win, but Win she did, and that was all the encouragement she needed. You will find in her store a wide selection of fabrics, country gifts, quilting notions, patterns and fat quarters. She has made this an at home store with a, sitting area to visit and a place to sit and sew and quilt. Her hopes are that all that enter her store will feel at home and feel welcome. Her statement is, "please come in and stay awhile". This dream, of owning a quilt shop came from her grandmother, who she loved and admired very much. You will see, some of her beautiful work hanging in her home which, is very close to her heart. Her grandmother always told her, "if she is patient, and trust her faith she will fulfill all of her dreams". It's true, with faith, prayer and with the love and patience you will fulfill your dreams. This store is dedicated in the memory of, Marie's Grandmother Stella Jimenez and the love of quilting she passed on to three generations.
